This past week, Ms. Torczon-Essien has been introducing our students to some of the books written by local author Nancy Carlson. Ms. Carlson will be visiting with K-5 students at Falcon Ridge on December 20. In addition, Ms. E took the opportunity to teach third graders what a QR code is, how to scan these ever-present codes, and use the information. Below two students used QR codes to play a YouTube clip instructing them how to draw some of the illustrations found in Nancy Carlson's books.

Literacy/Math Parent Night
This past Thursday, a Literacy/Math Parent Night was held and hosted by the Falcon Ridge intervention teachers. The focus was on giving parents the tools and resources that would allow them to better support their children in their learning. We had a very nice parent turnout and there were great discussions that took place. Thank you to Missy Short, Johna Anderson, JoAnne Torp, and Jordy Kraemer for your efforts in making this night a great success!

Veterans Day
Our day was highlighted by a special Veterans Day program that was informative, entertaining, and engaging for the near 800 people in attendance. In addition to numerous veterans who joined us as guests for the morning, NPHS senior Emma Deihl sang an incredible version of the Star Spangled Banner. Our featured speaker Mr. Dan Bisek, a United States Navy veteran, spoke to our students about the true meaning of a hero and how to appreciate the little things that we have in our lives. Lastly, each of our students had the opportunity to sing 'Thank You Soldiers' to close our program. Pictured below is Mr. Dan Bisek, with his daughters Lindsay (5th grade) and Emily (Kindergarten).

Fall Harvest Parties
Last week our students, and many parent volunteers, took time in the afternoon to enjoy themselves during our annual Fall Harvest Parties. Even our Kitchen Staff got into the spirit of things. Take a look at the pictures below from our food serving area and Mrs. Zwiefel's Kindergartners!
Kindergarten Survey
The State of Minnesota has passed legislation to provide
all-day/every-day kindergarten at no cost to parents beginning next school
year. Parents with preschool-aged children should have received an e-mail from
the school district asking you to complete a short survey regarding
kindergarten programming. If you received that email, please take a
moment to fill it out and submit, if one was not sent to you and your child
will be entering Kindergarten next school year or in two years, you may access
the information at np.k12.mn.us.
Participating in the survey does not commit you to anything, but will provide
the district with your thoughts for planning purposes. Future parent
meetings will be held at Eagle View on December 2nd and Falcon Ridge
on December 9th. Your input is important and we urge you to
complete this quick survey.
